The approach really is to bring on board whatever folks you’re going to need to sort out the various assets that you have. Sometimes we’ve got closely held businesses that need to be valued, and we’ll bring in a valuation expert. Sometimes we’re dealing with collections of things.

One of the things I ran into over the years was a Barbie collection. A client of mine had an extensive collection of Barbies. Ultimately, it valued out at several hundreds of thousands of dollars, but that was kind of an interesting aspect of things. People collect all sorts of things, and sometimes finding the right expert to value those items is a task in itself.

But the task at hand really is sorting out what we have, determining where it’s going to go, and placing values on things. It’s a dollars-and-cents issue with the court if we end up in a courthouse situation or in a mediation kind of setting.
